Home Business - The Reasons Why

Since you're reading this article, I have to assume you would like to establish your own home business and you're looking for extra motivation to get started.

Great. My list of the benefits of having your own work at home business is based on our own experience since 2003.

ONE -- Your partner always knows where you are. You're in the office or workshop, beavering away on developing your business.

Actually this was the very first item Pam mentioned when we chatted about this article. I think she likes the security of knowing where her husband is. I'll often be found in the home office here, banging away at the keyboard or developing some aspect of our home based business. I'll tell you more as we get to know each other more...

TWO -- You can be your own boss.

Look, I've been retrenched twice. That's the Australian word for getting laid off from your job. In both cases it was the result of financial pressures that the employers were experiencing so they downsized me out the door.

When you run the show, that can't happen.

Incidentally in my case, I was in my late 40's at the time of both retrenchments. Not a happy experience at all, but all too common. Perhaps that's your driving motivation behind setting up your own home business. If so, I understand - and congratulations!

THREE -- You can't be fired.

FOUR -- There's no need to retire. Ever. So if you enjoy your work, you can continue for many years after your workmates have had to retire.

FIVE -- You can work the business part time if you wish.

SIX -- You can go on holidays when and where you like (as long as you have set up some arrangements to take care of maintenance matters while you're away.)

SEVEN -- Satisfaction. There is an enormous sense of satisfaction in producing something that helps others and pays the bills. I love it. Especially when people take the time to write and say how an information report I've produced has helped them, for example. Call it ego-stroking if you like, but don't underrate the value of a sense of achievement and contribution.

EIGHT -- Express your individuality. You not only get to choose the business you want to run - you also can decide what it looks like and how it operates.

NINE -- Reward is proportionate to contribution. As you put more into your business, you can get more out of it. You're not building somebody else's future. You're directly building a future for yourself and your family.

Post Script: Reviewing this article has been good for me. It's provided a little extra impetus to get past the latest hurdles. Hope it helps you get fired up too.
